ABOUT US

We strive to do it all here at The Nest Nature Center, and this is just the beginning. Our first Private Wildlife Refuge located in the small communitiy of Montecristo, close to the town of Aguas Zarcas in northern Costa Rica; is the last bastion of protected foohill forest left from the giant Water National Park. One of the least explored protected areas of Costa Rica that provides a secure habitat for thousands of living organisms. Over 200 different birds species inhabit this extremely dynamic ecosystem. The idea of the project is raise awareness for the alternative wildlife restoration initiatives through active economic involvement of the people who live here thanks to Ecotourism (day visit), Lodging (over night at Oropendola House), virtual experiences (live broadcast and remote photography) and Scientific Research. We are currently working on many exciting initiatives to improve the quality of life of all creatures near one of the most endangered ecosystems in the World.

We are open year round and offer an spectacular system of trails plus a great bird observation platform for species that feed on fruit, a space for birds that feed on nectar, lagoons for water birds and kingfishers, day roost of two species of owls and a stunning fully equipped house for overnight stays.
